BGL gets behind community sport with new sponsorship programme
The Group will sponsor 50 sports sides in the coming year - continuing its commitment to grassroots sport.
Community sport in and around Peterborough has received a boost thanks to BGL Group, which is sponsoring 50 local sports teams this year.

The Group is backing 34 football teams, six cricket teams and four rugby clubs, two hockey clubs, a gymnastics club, a cycling team, an ice hockey team and a bowls club over the next 12 months.

Peterborough United Football Club is the largest sports club to receive BGL’s ongoing support, with the Group set to sponsor the club for the next three seasons. It also sponsors the family stand at London Road and the Peterborough United Foundation.

BGL is the main club sponsor for Peterborough Lions Rugby Club, having entered a three-year deal. Most of the recipients, however, are grassroots sports sides – Ketton Ladies football team, FC Hampton, Deeping United, Orton Rangers and Uffington Cricket Club to name a few. Bushfield Bowls Club, based behind the Orton Centre, is also being sponsored by BGL, with the Group funding 45 new shirts for its members. Likewise, The Youth Dreams Project, an education programme which aims to boost the life chances of a group of Peterborough teenagers through their love of football, is being sponsored for a second consecutive year.

BGL is also supporting its own sporting heroes –  colleagues Josh Myles, who plays for Peterborough Rugby Union Football Club, Nathan Pollard who plays ice hockey for Peterborough Phantoms, Peterborough Cycling Club cyclists Paul Pardoe and Jamie Murray and Paul Humphrey, who was recently selected for the England Touch Rugby High Performance Squad.

Caroline Raines, Director of Communications, BGL Group, said: “Making a difference to the community is part of our ethos. We also recognise the many benefits participating in sport has for people of all ages and abilities which is why we’re delighted to continue our support for grassroots sports.”

Stuart Sharp, Chairman of Orton Rangers Football Club said: “BGL’s support has made a huge difference helping us with kit for our men’s, reserves and juniors. It means everyone looks the same and feels part of the club family in their kit and we’re able to continue to keep costs down and make being part of the club as affordable as possible.”

BGL is a leading digital distributor of insurance and financial services. The Group, which has an office in Orton Southgate and a contact centre in Bretton, is home to brands including, Budget Insurance, Dial Direct and Beagle Street.
