BGL’s latest Dragon Boat Race saw 26 teams come together to make a difference for causes close to BGL employees’ hearts.
Last Saturday, 2 September, 26 teams from across BGL were down at the Peterborough Rowing Lake for this year's Dragon Boat race spectacular, which raised more than £39,000 for over 20 charities.
Back in April this year the race was announced and teams were called to sign up for the competition and set a fundraising challenge of £1,000 each. 26 teams signed up and together they smashed their fundraising targets. A number of local and national charities will benefit from the fundraising including Mind UK, Anna’s Hope, Free Kicks Foundation, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Thorpe Hall Hospice and Cancer Research UK.
The sun shone and more than 2,000 family members and friends of BGL’s employees attended to support the teams and enjoy the free activities and food on offer at the event.
It was a close call but the winners of the event, who rowed to glory with a fastest time of 63.30, were the almighty Beagle Fleet. Plenty of wonderful and wild costumes were on show on the day, but the best dressed team went to BGL’s French colleagues from LesFurets.com.
