BGL success marked in Sunday Times Top Track 250
Peterborough-based digital distributor of insurance and household financial services named the East’s leading mid-market private company
BGL Group has been named as the leading mid-market private company in the East of England, reaching no 12 in this year’s Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250, which celebrates some of the UK’s fastest growing companies.
Since BGL first entered the list at 229 back in 2007, the past 10 years have seen a stellar rise in the company’s rankings, and it is now the 12th biggest mid-market growth company by sales, with profits cited as ‘among the highest on the league table’.
BGL first broke into the top 100 back in 2009, and since then has risen up the rankings each year, reaching no 42 by 2013 and this year breaking into the top 20 for the first time.
Published annually in the Sunday Times, the list is produced by Fast Track, an Oxford-based firm which researches the UK’s top performing private companies and organises networking events for industry leaders. It is open to all companies with a turnover up to £650m and, crucially, which can demonstrate significant year-on-year growth. Other household names featured in this year’s listing include Holland & Barrett, Travelodge and Aston Martin.
BGL was among 15 companies with headquarters in the East of England which, combined, increased sales 11% to £3.7bn and operating profits 22% to £279m, employing more than 23,400 people. Overall, the companies on the list generate combined sales of £62.4bn, the equivalent of 3.2% of GDP, and employ over 380,000 people across the UK.
