BGL launches recruitment drive for BGL Academy after surpassing 2018 target
More than 200 colleagues join BGL Academy within first year
BGL Group is putting out a call for new recruits to join its BGL Academy, looking to build on the success of the programme’s first year. BGL is a leading digital distributor of insurance and household financial services and owner of brands including, motor and home insurance provider Budget Insurance and life insurance provider Beagle Street.

BGL Group launched the BGL Academy in March 2018 to create a pipeline of future talent and set a target of 200 roles filled by the end of the year. This target was surpassed in October, with 208 people signing up for Academy roles across BGL’s sites in Peterborough, London, Wakefield and Sunderland. As participants in the BGL Academy graduate to their new roles within the Group, BGL will continue to fill these spaces, ensuring that the business always has a robust pipeline of future talent.

The scheme offers specialised career development in a wide range of subjects and levels through apprenticeships and graduate programmes. These are open to both existing colleagues and those joining the business for the first time. The Academy has created opportunities for apprentices to specialise in a variety of areas including data, digital, tech, customer service, finance and HR. It also offers a generalist programme for those who want to experience a range of areas. Foundation level apprenticeships are open to those with qualifications up to GCSE level, and Advanced and Higher-level apprenticeships to people with post-16 qualifications, such as A-levels and degrees.

Apprenticeship opportunities are open all year round, with a range of roles in Peterborough and Sunderland currently on offer here

The BGL Academy graduate programmes offer two- and three-year programmes in digital, tech, marketing, finance, and risk and compliance, and each feature several rotations across the business and its brands. Recruitment for this year’s intake is well underway, with applicants currently going through the selection process.

Rachael Gillett, Chief People Officer, BGL Group, said: “The BGL Academy demonstrates the importance we place on developing our talent, both from within the Group and by recruiting new colleagues. We set ourselves a very ambitious goal to create 200 Academy roles across the Group by the end of 2018, and I’m thrilled that the programme has taken off to such a degree that we surpassed our target two months early.

“We have unlocked a wealth of opportunities through the Academy and what’s particularly pleasing to me is that we’ve done so across a wide range of subjects and for such diverse groups of talented people. This includes school leavers, graduates, career changers and existing colleagues looking to develop their career within BGL.

“We are also very excited to be expanding our investment across the regions by securing local talent in Peterborough, Wakefield and Sunderland. Tapping into these growing communities not only creates new job opportunities for locals but boosts BGL’s pool of talent and diverse expertise.

“We are now working to build on the momentum of the Academy’s first-year success by consistently recruiting new talent to fill the spaces of those who have graduated from the academy to roles in the Group. I am really looking forward to developing the Academy further over the next 12 months and welcoming our new colleagues.”
