BGL's Zambia team hits fundraising target
BGL’s intrepid team of Zambia fundraisers hit their £40,000 fundraising target well ahead of schedule.
The team from across BGL’s Peterborough, Sunderland, York, Wakefield & Paris sites, got involved in a range of zany activities including climbing and zip wiring down Mount Snowden, running a marathon dressed as Darth Vader, auctions, casino nights, team quiz events – and, of course, endless cake sales! …and the challenges go on with one fundraiser, Gary Duggan (MD of BGL’s partnerships business, Junction) preparing to cycle from London to Paris at the end of April.
The team’s cash will now be added to the donation already made by BGL, which is funding the build of a health clinic in Kapiri in partnership with charity partner, Build It International. The new clinic will provide much needed medical support to thousands of people and will have specialised maternity and HIV wards.
Amanda Parkinson, one of the 20 fundraisers, said of the achievement: ‘’I’m so pleased we’ve made it, and I’m over the moon that we’ve raised so much! The new medical centre will change numerous lives and I’m really proud to say I’m part of that.”
Sophie Hawley, another fundraiser and organiser of the trip, said: “It’s such an honour to be a part of this trip that we know will impact so many people’s life’s in a really positive way. Everyone has really gone above and beyond to think of new ways of raising money – and we’ve been so well supported by our colleagues.”
The team will travel to Zambia at the end of June to visit the project.
