BGL Make a Difference Fund launched
BGL Group, a leading digital distributor of insurance and household financial services, has today announced a search for new regional charity partners as part of its goal to positively impact 250,000 lives and donate £3 million to good causes by 2020.
‚ÄčThe search will mark an ambitious extension of the Group’s previous goal, announced in 2016, which aimed to impact 100,000 lives by 2020. Having taken the challenge to heart, colleagues across BGL smashed the original target two years ahead of plan, positively impacting 209,000 people, donating over £1 million to good causes and delivering more than 19,000 volunteering hours in local communities, hence the need to more than double the target.

The launch of its ambitious new regional charity partnership programme, the BGL Make a Difference Fund, will see an additional £160,000 used to support local charities based close to its five key sites in Peterborough, Sunderland, London, Wakefield and across the channel in Paris. 

Through the BGL Make a Difference Fund, each site will fund a key project or initiative to benefit people in the local area, working in partnership with a locally based charity partner, selected via a company-wide vote. Charities are invited to submit proposals from today. BGL is also keen to build a close and collaborative partnership with its chosen charity in each region to facilitate regular volunteering and fundraising by people across the Group, with partnerships lasting for a minimum of two years. Every site will also receive funding to activate regional sponsorship programmes in the local community. 

BGL’s Chief Executive, Matthew Donaldson, said: “With this new charity partnership programme we want to develop a really strong bond with our chosen charities, supporting them not just with substantial funding but with our people’s time. The best charity partnerships are about collaboration and we know that by working together, we can impact many thousands of lives and make a tangible difference in the communities where we operate.

“The success of our existing community programme is very much down to the commitment of our people and I know they’ll enjoy getting involved in choosing our new partners.”

People across BGL will have the opportunity to propose local charities which are close to their hearts, but the Group is also encouraging charities to apply direct, which they can do by emailing All interested charity partners will be sent an information pack with further details on how to apply.

Entries are open now, with the window for applications closing on 31 August. Selection will take place during September with a view to the partnerships starting in early October.
