From Team Assistant to Customer Retention Manager
Sam is part of our Insurance, Distribution and Outsourcing division’s Motor and Home team. Her career at BGL over the past four years has seen Sam journey from a Team Assistant to Customer Retention Manager.
Sam’s first role at BGL was Team Assistant in the Marketing team at BGL’s comparethemarket.com, which she began in March 2015. From here, Sam went on to a role in the Group Communications team, before moving on to a secondment in Insurance, Distribution and Outsourcing in July 2017. It was here that Sam took up a role as Senior Marketing Executive, working on the Treats programme for BGL’s own brands, Budget and Dial Direct. The role was made permanent in March 2018 and, following a restructure of the IDO division, Sam was successfully appointed to the role of Customer Retention Manager in December 2018. This new role will see Sam work across BGL’s entire portfolio of brands, heading up a small team to deliver initiatives to reward and retain customers.
Sam said, “In my four years at BGL, I’ve been fortunate enough to work with a variety of talented colleagues across the business, learning more and more as I go. I’ve tried to stay open minded about new opportunities and have always enjoyed getting involved in projects that aren’t always directly linked to my BAU responsibilities.
“I like to be proactive with my development and have taken full advantage of the support available at BGL. While working in Group Communications, I completed my CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing, a course that BGL fully funded. I’ve attended a whole host of seminars and conferences over the last few years and more recently I’ve enjoyed some of the Leadership courses available through Mi Development.
“I’ve also had lots of support from the various mentors that have helped me on my journey over the years. I’ve always found a lot of value in having a mentor who is removed from my day-to-day and who can guide and influence me and my development.
“I have also had the pleasure of meeting lots of new people through the BGL choir and the BGL Blues (our very own touch rugby team) which continues to help me build my network across the business. I think it’s important to get a good balance at work and these social groups are really good fun and open to everyone, so it’s a great way to meet people from other departments.”
