A Day in the life of… a Change Delivery Manager
We caught up with Kim Raisbeck to find out what it’s like to be a Change Delivery Manager in Business Technology
I work with multiple development teams, using agile methods to create seamless and first-class online experiences for our customers across our brands. We work using the Scrum framework, and if any problems are raised during the sprint, it’s my job to find a solution.
What I love about my job is the variety. It may sound cliché, but no one day is ever the same. We’re a forward thinking team, with ongoing encouragement to challenge the work we’re doing and the opportunity to evolve our ways of working. One of my recent highlights has been working on our Tech Enablement programme – a huge initiative which includes building a new architecture across all of our online journeys to provide a quicker roll-out of new propositions, enable future creativity and deliver a better experience for our customers.
In December 2018, we hit a milestone when we went live with brand new mobile-first journey to our Budget brand. Not only am I proud of what we delivered, but I’m also incredibly proud of the way we did it. I was lucky to work in an ambitious team, with various skills and creative mind-sets. We were constantly introducing and testing new approaches to the way we developed the features, which was both challenging and exciting.
To be effective in this role, you need to be pro-active with clear communication skills, and have an open mind – there’s always something new to learn or something else we can do to improve our journeys, or the way we work. I personally find the role adventurous, and having a development and Business Analyst background has helped me in translating technical language to key stakeholders.
I’ve been with BGL Group for three years now, initially attracted to the role for the opportunity to work in a large department with multiple development teams. One of the key benefits of working in such a large organisation is that there’s always opportunities to learn and develop. It’s also an organisation which really looks after its people – I’ve been able to really benefit from the flexible working arrangements available, and it’s great being able to use the gym at lunch times!
