Spotlight Series - Vaishali Tailor
Through our Spotlight Series, we delve into the minds of our colleagues to find out more about their roles, what motivates them, who inspires them and much more.
What originally attracted you to BGL Group?
I really admired the flexibility that the Group promoted, even though I live in Leicestershire, I was able to work from home two days a week. I was impressed that it would be an environment that encouraged development of your current skill set so you can learn and grow.
Tell us about your journey through BGL since you joined the Group
I started in the comparethemarket.com Data team as an Insight Analyst. After a few years of experience in this area, I was presented with the opportunity to project manage the first skills-based CSR event called Data4Good, which provided a day of analysis and upskilling for three different charities.
I started to network with Project Managers and Delivery Managers across the business to make sure the event ran smoothly, and following this I realised that I wanted to further my career in Project Management. Luckily, a role came up in the Marketing team and I was offered the opportunity to develop following the success of Data4Good.
Tell us about your role
My role as a Project Manager is to ensure delivery of projects on time, to a high standard and to budget. This largely involves co-ordinating efforts across multiple teams, across different parts of the business and being able to provide solutions when issues or risks arise within a project.
The latest project that I have delivered is the 'sleepy Oleg' meerkat toy campaign, which welcomed the return of the beloved meerkat toys after a two-year break.
Who inspires you?
My parents really inspire me as they have always encouraged me that hard work always pays off and there is nothing that I can’t achieve if I put my mind to it.
Lockdown lowlights and highlights
My lockdown lowlights are not being able to see my friends in London except over video call, and not being able to see and hug my family.
My lockdown highlights have to be the amount of time I have been able to spend with my husband, as lockdown hit in the first year of our marriage (good to know we can survive the test of being together all the time) and buying a new house!
What was the best marketing campaign during lockdown?
I have to be biased and say that the best marketing campaign during lockdown was the Sleepy Oleg toy campaign!
What are your top tips for being a project manager?
Although I have only been doing this for a year, my top tips for being a project manager are: be organised, write everything down to document everything and do not be afraid to challenge people or processes.
Tell us something not many people know about you...
I make the best chocolate brownies. I love baking - just before lockdown I watched every episode of the Great British Bake-off.
