BGL’s Group Risk & Compliance department have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Manager to join their team to support the Group Risk Director with specific deep dive reviews and to develop new innovative ways of leveraging the newly implemented risk management system. Success within this role will be measured by delivering workable solutions that support the business in providing forward looking / cost effective risk mitigation.


This Senior Manager’s position offers a hugely varied and interesting career path for the right individual in which you will need to continually develop up-to-date industry knowledge within the insurance sector to be able to proactively identify and address potential future risks.  This approach will include horizon scanning, risk event assessments, emerging risk reviews and specific ad-hoc reviews and stress testing, all designed to aid the business with early risk identification and to facilitate upfront actions for the avoidance / mitigation of risk.


Working as a Senior Manager in Risk you will provide thought leadership on risk advisory & oversight services to the business, including risk quantification, measurement, monitoring and control. This is a second line of defence risk role, partnering with Divisional Risk Teams and Senior Management to enhance and develop effective risk management across the Group. To work effectively in this role, you will develop tools and MI to assist management in exercising risk oversight on initiatives that underpin our strategic objectives. You will also be instrumental in contributing to the Risk Strategic execution plan reporting, working with the Group Risk Director in developing risk thinking and understanding across the Group.


Due to the nature of this role you will need to liaise and work closely with key stakeholders across BGL to collect and collate all data/insight needed for your risk investigations. Communication will therefore be key to this position and you will need to have the ability to communicate clearly and be able to influence senior stakeholders throughout the business.

What will it take?

  • Excellent knowledge of operational risk and other risk category management in context of an FCA regulated firm
  • An analytical, curious work approach to look at trends and deep-dive into potential consequences of each from a Risk perspective
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with colleagues across all areas and levels of the organisation
  • Be able to work independently and creatively with an ability to stand back and see the bigger picture
  • Good knowledge of the insurance industry and Price Comparison Websites (PCWs) – (desirable)
  • Good knowledge of wider corporate governance and sector issues – (desirable)
