We believe every act of giving adds up to something powerful

At BGL Group, we want it to be easy for everybody to contribute to causes that mean a lot to them personally. We do this through match funding, volunteering and payroll giving.

Volunteering

Our employee volunteering programme supports each of our colleagues to make a difference for a community project of their choice by taking a paid day out of the office to volunteer for a charity of their choice. Some colleagues volunteer individually for a personal cause, while others choose to join together and make it a team building day.

So far we’ve completed more than 20,000 volunteering hours. Volunteering days range from delivering CVs and interview skills workshops to painting and gardening at local schools and hospices.

Our volunteers

Being able to contribute to charitable causes is so rewarding

Our team has spent a day in each of the last two years working in the gardens at the Sue Ryder Hospice at Thorpe Hall, Peterborough. It’s hugely rewarding to know that we’ve contributed, even in a small way, to maintaining a beautiful environment for the patients and their visitors

A very humbling experience

We volunteered at 4Louis, a Sunderland charity providing bereaved parents who suffer a stillbirth or neonatal death with memory boxes free of charge. The sense of achievement, and appreciation received, was a very humbling experience. To be allowed to help when I should have been at work and still being paid to do so makes you realise what kind of company I work for.

Richard Haley, Brand Support Coach

A great opportunity to give back

It was great to have the opportunity to give back to a local worthwhile charity and at the same time spend some time with my colleagues and get to know them a little better.

Jo Klein, PA

Our match funders

Every year BGL has matched my fundraising efforts

Every May for the last five years I have completed the Burghley Rat Race to raise money for the David School in Sierra Leone. Every year BGL has fund matched my efforts. Over those years the money has enabled the school to sink a new well to serve the school and the local community with clean water, provide the children with a daily meal and build a toilet block. Thank you BGL!

Kate Armes, Associate Director

I can't express how fantastic it is to have match funding.

BGL funding for the Lambton Street Youth and Community Hub goes towards buying specialist equipment and training the volunteers that help with the running of all of the services they provide. I can't express how fantastic it is to have match funding. You don’t have to use the £1,000 in one go, you can spread it over multiple events

Adele Callaghan, Customer Service Representative

It’s not often that you can raise £1,000 and have this immediately doubled

As part of the fundraising for the renovation of my cricket club’s net facilities, we held a very successful event that raised £555 which, when matched by BGL, took our total to £1,100. I was lucky enough to obtain further match funding which took me up to the maximum allowed of £1,000 per year. It’s not often that you can raise £1,000 and have this immediately doubled to £2,000. Thanks, BGL!

Payroll giving

Payroll giving is a popular way for colleagues to donate to the charity of their choice by making a monthly donation direct from their pay. It also means donations are taken out before tax.

BGL Group currently holds the Silver Payroll Giving Quality Mark to recognise the number of people participating.

It’s my way of giving back and the fact BGL offers this option is a bonus

Payroll giving is a quick and easy way for me to make sure I do my little bit for charity. Each month I give to the British Heart Foundation. It comes out of my wages every month before tax which is great for me and really hassle-free. It’s my way of giving back and the fact BGL offers this option is a bonus

Danielle Brewster, Senior Manager

I’m very glad BGL gives us the chance to make a difference to causes close to us in this way

Through my work at BGL I got to know the Matt Hampson Foundation, a great charity which supports people seriously injured through sport, and truly motivating in its approach and attitude. I wanted to make a regular contribution to the charity and payroll giving was so easy to set up and the charity benefits more as well.
