An additional £1.5m to good causes

We’ve enhanced our CSR programme with Empower, Pledge, Donate – a campaign to support community causes impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

Our current charity partners (Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, The Sick Children’s Trust, Autremonde, 4Louis, Eve Merton Dreams Trust and Build It International) will receive an initial boost of between £50,000 and £100,000.

The remainder of the funding will be made available for applications through our existing community committees, which include representatives from each of BGL’s locations in Peterborough, Sunderland, Wakefield, London and Paris. Charities wishing to apply for funding should complete the application form and return it to csr@bglgroup.co.uk.

On top of the donations, our colleagues are participating in a Three Month Give through our existing Payroll Giving scheme.

From volunteering to match funding, by 2020 we aim to achieve...

Making a difference for our communities

Our community activity is a core part of who we are. It is engaging for our people and is often called out as one of the things that makes BGL Group a great place to work.

As a Group, our CSR strategy operates in three main areas, Partnerships, Community and Personal.

Growing our partnerships

Working with charities at home and abroad, our partnerships are designed to empower people and encourage education and entrepreneurship.

Lending a helping hand

Our CSR activity is characterised by the handprint identity with different colours used to represent different elements of the strategy. The handprint represents the personal touch of individuals getting involved in making a difference for our communities and is a constant reminder of the goals we’ve set ourselves.

Achieving our goals

Together with our colleagues, we strive to impact community and social development, not only within our own locations but around the world. Aligning our CSR strategy with the overall Group purpose ensures we continuously operate responsibly and create long-term positive value for society.

Make a Difference Fund

Through the BGL Make a Difference Fund, each of our business locations will fund a key project or initiative to benefit people in the local area, working in partnership with a locally-based charity.

Our work in Zambia

Our community building projects in Zambia, building schools and clinics, transform the lives of thousands of people in those communities.

Match funding

We match any funds raised by our colleagues in aid of good causes up to £1,000 each per year.

Our CSR champions

The satisfaction I get from being able to impact people's lives is amazing

I have met and established great partnerships with those volunteers who work tirelessly and passionately for the charities that are close to their own hearts. It's a pleasure to be involved in making a difference through BGL's donations and fundraising processes.

Samantha Ronnay, Group Communications

We have made such a difference in Sunderland, I'm proud to be a part of BGL's CSR programme

I had a clear vision of how we could maximise our impact on the community by making the most of the funds provided by BGL. It’s not an exaggeration to say that some of our local charities wouldn’t have been able to continue with the great work they are doing if it wasn’t for the Community team here in Sunderland, supported by BGL.
