We are proud partners of The Prince’s Trust
Our vision for the ‘National’ element of the strategy is for employees to give their time and get involved with charitable activity. Our national charity partner is The Prince’s Trust. Since July 2012 we have supported 138 young people directly via volunteering and a further 200 through £200,000 in donations to the Trust.
Through The Prince’s Trust, our employees support young people into education, training and employment. They do this by running employability workshops or by volunteering as progression or business mentors. 95% of our people who volunteer say they would recommend volunteering to a colleague.
Here are the volunteering targets we have set ourselves as part of our five-year relationship with the Trust:
We regularly run The Prince’s Trust ‘World of Work’ seminars at our Head Office in Peterborough, and are working to roll these out at our other locations. The seminars give groups of disadvantaged local 16-25 year olds an insight into the working environment and an opportunity to build their confidence and learn new skills. The aim is to improve their chances of moving into work, training or education.
Around 10 BGL people are involved in organising each day, which includes a tour of the offices, an interactive session and an opportunity to grill experts from various departments in a Q&A.
“This is a unique opportunity for young people to see inside a successful corporate environment with great core values. The personal talks by two of the BGL employees to explain their own journeys were fantastic, as the young people could really relate to their stories. It delivered the message that with hard work, determination and positivity, anything is possible.”
