Press Release

Employees share their talents to help Grace House

Immediate release: 01 June 2009

Employees at Fusion Contact Centre Services in Sunderland have raised almost £3,000 for Grace House North East Children's Hospice Appeal - a project to build a children's hospice to create a home from home for terminally ill children.

Their fundraising activity has included a charity abseil at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland which raised a total of £2,085 and their very own Fusion's Got Talent Night which raised almost £900 for the charity.

Six Fusion employees took part in the charity abseil – Sunderland Contact Centre Manager Tony Barrett, Sales Advisors Lee Swindle, David Stevens and Nicola Proctor, receptionist Lee Padovani and Peterlee Contact Centre Sales Advisor Lorraine Jefferies. Between them the colleagues raised £1,085 in sponsorship and Fusion donated a further £1,000 in match funding.

More than 120 colleagues supported the entertaining Fusion's Got Talent event encouraging the seven acts as they showed off their best singing and dancing skills at the Catholic Club in Sunderland. It was organised by the Sunderland GIVE committee – a team of colleagues set up to help local good causes – and proved to be a great social night.

Richie Haley, a team leader from Peterlee Contact Centre, kept the audience entertained with his witty and energetic presenting skills. The judging panel included Head of Site Jason Turner, Senior Sales Manager Lisa Tilmouth and Senior Customer Services Manager Sarah Burns.

Revellers voted for their favourite acts - the winners were Sunderland duo Sales Team Leader Helen Corner and Sales Advisor Dean Taylor with their fantastic duet of Aerosmith's 'Don't Want To Miss A Thing'.

Lee Swindle came second with his soulful rendition of Spandau Ballet's Through the Barricades. And third place was Andy Smith and Angelos Kyriakides with an Oasis number.

GIVE Committee chairman Tony Barrett said: "We've had some great fun with these fundraising efforts. The charity abseil was a real achievement for colleagues and the Talent Night was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who came. We've been keen supporters of the Grace House project for some time now and have even more events in the pipeline to help boost their funds in the future. Up to £3million is needed to build Grace House – it's a much-needed resource and we're keen to do everything we can to support the project.

Seaham School of Technology loaned Fusion their video recording equipment to film the night, and teenage students will be editing their footage as part of a school project this term.

Karen MacLennan, Regional Fundraiser for Grace House said: "We are extremely grateful for the continued support shown to us by Fusion – they have been fantastic. Grace House will be the first children-only dedicated hospice in the whole of the North East. Our appeal relies heavily on public donations as no Government funding is available to children's hospices towards the building costs. We are hoping to start building work in the next 12 months.
