Fusion donated £1,500 to Prostate Cancer Research

Staff involved in major fundraising effort

Immediate release: 19 May 2009

Fusion Contact Centre Services in Coventry has donated £1,500 to Prostate Cancer Support Association after one of its HR team helped organise a fundraiser in aid of the Coventry-based charity.

Fusion is the call centre division of the BGL Group, one of the UK's largest, privately-owned personal lines insurance intermediaries, which takes a keen interest in employees' fundraising efforts through its match-funding policy.

Jackie Horner, HR Officer at Fusion, based on the Mile Lane Technology Park, is a member of the fundraising committee of Marston Green & District Lions Club, which organised a fundraising dinner dance attended by more than 100 people at the Strawberry Bank Hotel in Meriden, West Midlands.

Jackie's husband Brian is a member of the Lions and the couple have been involved in the group for more than 20 years. The Lions chose to support the Prostate charity after their secretary Wim Hoogerwerf was diagnosed with the disease.

The event itself raised £2,700, and, together with the £1,500 match-funded by Fusion, brings the total to £4,200. This will be donated to Prostate Cancer Support Association and other local charities. The support association was set up and is now run by people who have personal experience of the disease. It helps organise screening for cancer and counselling for patients and their families.

Jackie said: "We had amazing support for the charity dinner dance. We had a tombola and silent auction and lots of other activities to help raise money for the charity. The match-funding from Fusion is a really welcome boost. It means such a lot to work for a company that supports employees in their personal fundraising efforts. This is a very deserving charity chosen through the personal connection with Lions member Wim Hoogerwerf. Wim's treatment has proved successful so far and we wanted to be able to help others who are diagnosed with the disease."

Lions President Jonathan Harris said: "A huge thank you goes to Fusion for this fantastic contribution to our prostate cancer fundraising campaign. This will help the support association to raise awareness of the condition and how early treatment is vital. If one life can be saved then our joint efforts have been a great success. Thank you again for your support"
