Employees at Fusion Contact Centre Services in Sunderland have pedaled their way to raising over £500 for the NSPCC, its chosen corporate charity.

Five members of the Fusion team got on their bikes at Derwent County Park on Saturday 28 June to participate in the annual NSPCC Big Bike Ride. They had the choice of riding along a number of routes ranging from a leisurely 4.73 mile ride around the Park, to a more demanding 25 mile ride taking the riders west along the Tyne and exploring some of the rural locations in the area.

The Fusion cyclists managed to raise £580 for the charity; taking the total raised by Fusion and its parent company, the BGL Group, to more than £10,000 since March 2008.  The NSPCC was chosen by Fusion staff as its corporate charity partner for the next two years. The combined fundraising target for Fusion and BGL is a challenging £100, 000.

Stephanie Charlton, a member of the Fusion team said: “I was really surprised to see the number of people, especially whole families, that turned up to support the NSPCC. The Fusion team cycled for 15 miles and it was surprisingly relaxing as we had the opportunity to see areas of Sunderland you usually wouldn’t, whilst raising money for our charity partner. Once we had finished I felt like we had really achieved something worthwhile and I was proud to have been a part of the event. “

Jason Turner, Head of Site said: “I am really proud of all the staff who volunteered their time and focused their energy into preparing for the event to support our nominated charity - they did extremely well. I’d like to thank their colleagues, families and friends who dug deep into their pockets to sponsor those who participated - their generosity has now bought us one step closer to our target.”

Jon O’Neill of the NSPCC said: “The event has been a real success. Fusion have really got behind the charity and made some great efforts already - in just four months they have managed to raise over one tenth of their target. This is fantastic news for us and a testament to the dedication of the staff. They’ve shown they feel very passionately about the NSPCC’s cause. “

The money raised by the company will enable the NSPCC to continue with their work of supporting young people via projects such as the Kaleidoscope Project based in the North East – which aims to understand and help children who display harmful traits.
