Fusion Cycle for Charity in Coventry
Immediate release: 30 June 2008
Employees at Fusion Contact Centre Services in Coventry have pedaled their way to raising over £500 for the NSPCC, its chosen corporate charity.
Seven members of the Fusion team got on their bikes at Coombe Country Park on Saturday 28 June to participate in the annual NSPCC Big Bike Ride. They had the choice of riding either 3 miles – where they had the opportunity to soak up the scenic views of the Park, or 12 miles – which lead the riders out into the picturesque Warwickshire countryside.
The Fusion cyclists managed to raise £580 for the charity; taking the total raised by Fusion and its parent company, the BGL Group, to more than £10,000 since March 2008. The NSPCC was chosen by Fusion staff as its corporate charity partner for the next two years. The combined fundraising target for Fusion and BGL is a challenging £100,000.
Jackie Horner, a member of the Fusion team said: "We had a brilliant day, the atmosphere was incredible and everyone was really determined to do their best for the NSPCC. We decide to really push ourselves and complete the 12 mile option – which was extremely demanding at times but once we'd passed the finishing point and realised what we had achieved both physically and for the NSPCC - it was worth it. We will definitely be taking part again next year."
Mike Howkins, Head of Site at Fusion Coventry said: "I am really proud of all the staff that volunteered their time and focused their energy into preparing for the event to support our nominated charity - they did extremely well. I'd like to thank their colleagues, families and friends who dug deep into their pockets to sponsor those who participated - their generosity has now bought us one step closer to our target."
Jon O'Neill of the NSPCC said: "The event has been a real success. Fusion have really got behind the charity and made some great efforts already - in just four months they have managed to raise over one tenth of their target. This is fantastic news for us and a testament to the dedication of the staff. They've shown they feel very passionately about the NSPCC's cause."
The money raised by the company will enable the NSPCC to continue with their work of supporting young people via projects such as a Coventry-based Harmful Behavior Project - which offers assessment and intervention for children under the age of 18 who are deemed to be at risk.
