Fusion backs local talent in quest for Olympics
Immediate release: 15 April 2009
Fusion Contact Centre Services in Peterborough is backing promising young Peterborough triathlete Josh Daniels (18) in his quest to compete in the 2012 Olympics in London.
Josh won a place on the coveted World Class Programme for the British Triathlon Association (BTA) after coming 2nd in the Youth British Championship race held at Eton last summer.
Fusion is the call centre division of the Peterborough-based BGL Group, a major player in UK home and motor insurance. Fusion takes great pride in rewarding its top performers and those who achieve their personal best in the business as well as supporting local talent, good causes and initiatives.
Fusion has given Josh £750 towards a new road race bike for his Olympic bid. Josh is the stepson of Julie Daniels, Senior Account Manager for Fusion Contact Centre Services in Peterborough. He is currently juggling studying for A-levels with his 25 hours a week gruelling training schedule on the programme from which he has represented his country in Spain in the European Youth Relay Championships and brought home a gold medal for Britain. He represented GB in the Australian Youth Olympics held in Sydney early this year and is now more determined than ever to make it into the British team for the 2012 Games. As a triathlete he races over 3 events, swimming, cycling and running.
David Thompson, Managing Director of Fusion, said: "We have a real affinity with sport and a real passion for supporting promising local youngsters with talent. This is an opportunity for us to put something back into the community in which we trade with the added connection that Josh is related to Julie, who is a valued and long-serving member of our team. It's great to see such determination from this spirited youngster. We wish him well in his quest for the Olympics."
Josh said: "The money will go towards my road racing bike. It's really great to have a company such as Fusion backing me like this, I really appreciate the support. I got a taste of the Olympics in Australia. I'm determined to work my way up the ladder to get to the real Olympics in 2012."
This follows Fusion's 'Go for Gold' Awards Scheme through which it supported local Olympic champions competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Last month, Fusion also sponsored the home and away kit for promising Peterborough United player Callum Reed - son of Rob Reed who works for Fusion's parent company BGL Group which has its headquarters in Orton Southgate, Peterborough.
