Fusion Apprentices Help Spruce-up Local Primary School
Local employer, Fusion Contact Centre Services, sent two teams of fourteen apprentices to give a local school, Whitburn Village Primary, a well-deserved lick of paint.
Immediate release: 9 January 2012
The two day volunteering opportunity was organised for Fusion by the North East's Business in the Community team. The apprentices spent two days decorating the school's nursery, corridors and other shared areas.
The apprentices, aged between 16 and 19, joined Fusion last summer to gain both an understanding of the contact centre business and academic qualifications in NVQ Level 2 in Equality & Diversity, Contact Centre and a Technical Certificate also. The programme runs until February 2012 when they could become fully fledged members of the Fusion team.
Judith Merriman, school headteacher, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the work that has been carried out at our school. The young volunteers worked very hard and the place looks brand new - a very professional job!"
Bethany Leitch, Fusion Sunderland apprentice, said: 'I joined the Fusion apprenticeship scheme in August 2011 and I am en-route to completing my NVQ in Customer Service. The Fusion apprenticeship is so much more than a qualification and work experience; it's a journey into the world of work and the company culture. Fusion is committed to supporting its local communities and I loved the opportunity to get out and do something worthwhile to help children in our local area."
The work with Whitburn Village Primary School forms part of Fusion’s wider corporate social responsibility and volunteering activity – which is targeting local schools and youth groups for the next two years. Fusion is committed to supporting its local community and has various local partnerships including Highfield Community Primary School, Whitburn Village Primary School, South Hylton Primary School and Help4Kidz.
