Cyclists boost Corporate Charity Funds by more than £5,000
Immediate release: 07 July 2008
ACM ULR, the one-stop shop for uninsured loss recovery at Peterborough-based BGL Group, one of the UK's largest privately-owned personal lines insurance intermediaries, has raised another £5,000 for its corporate-nominated charity - the NSPCC.
Earlier this year the BGL Group employees voted for their favourite charities and chose overwhelmingly to appoint the NSPCC as its corporate charity partner. It has pledged to raise £100,000 for the charity over the next two years as part of its ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.
The Group which includes insurance brands such as BUDGET, Bennetts and ibuyeco, plans to raise its funds via activities such as an inter-Group pub quiz, auction of promises and a charity trek. The fund-raising campaign was kick-started with a major Spring Clean/Recycling event in April and, with the latest funds from the cycle ride, has already topped the £10,000 mark for the NSPCC.
ACM ULR is one of six business units within the Group which are all competing to raise the highest funds via their own fundraising events.
On Thursday (June 26) more than 40 cyclists, made up of colleagues, family and friends, braved the heavy rainstorms and swarms of summer flies to cycle a total of 626 miles around Grafham Water Centre, near Huntingdon, raising more than £5,000 for the NSPCC.
They had originally aimed to raise around £4,000, setting themselves a target to cycle two circuits each. But in true fighting spirit they surpassed all expectations to notch up the impressive final figures. Managing Director of ACM ULR Bob Perry said: "A huge thank you goes to all the cyclists, colleagues, family, friends and our suppliers who contributed either through their sheer physical determination or generous sponsorship. We began the challenge in a gentle breeze but ended up in torrential rain, so it was a major effort to complete the course."
NSPCC Corporate Fundraising Manager Jon O'Neill also came along to support the fund-raisers on the night and said: "This was a phenomenal effort by colleagues and friends of ACM ULR. They were really determined to beat their own targets and excelled themselves on the night. We are extremely grateful for the support the NSPCC is being shown by the BGL Group and are working closely with them in the organisation of all their fund-raising efforts."
"All the money raised will help continue our vital services for children and young people, including our Child Protection Helpline and ChildLine. We are confident that with the sheer enthusiasm and dedication shown by BGL colleagues so far, that they will continue to help make a real difference to the charity over the next couple of years."
