BGL Group supports local young people via 'COPS' sponsorship
Immediate release: 24 November 2009
Major Peterborough employer, the BGL Group, today announced its £2,500 support of the City of Peterborough Swimming Club (COPS). The club promotes and encourages all aspects of swimming, and is one of the leading competitive swimming clubs in the East of England. The club provides coaching at competitive level up to international standards.
The BGL Group is backing COPS as part of its commitment to support good causes local to its sites in Peterborough, Coventry and the North East. This is in addition to the company's fundraising target of £100,000 for its corporate charity partner, the NSPCC, by March 2010.
The BGL Group's sponsorship will fund the annual COPS Open championship meet to be held in April 2010. One of the region's leading swimming events, bringing visitors and revenue to the City, the Open is a three-day competition enabling local swimmers to potentially qualify for regional and/or national swimming championships.
Cheryl Clifford, a BGL Group Board Director, said: "As a major employer in Peterborough, we are committed to supporting our local community. COPS is one of the City's success stories, offering exceptional coaching and competing opportunities for young people across the region. We hope our investment will help to produce swimming champions of the future."
John Rippon of the City of Peterborough Swimming Club, said: "We would like to thank BGL for its generous contribution. As a non-profit organisation.we rely on the support of local organisations and our members to cover the considerable costs of this event. We have a long history in Peterborough, dating back to the 1930s, and it's through the ongoing support of our community that we can continue to promote competitive swimming in the region."
