BGL Group Raises £1,200 For Children's Charities

Immediate release: 06 October 2008

Colleagues pulled out all the stops on Peterborough's Children's Day.

Employees at the BGL Group have proved that fundraising is anything but child's play after generating an impressive £1,200 in just one day.

Colleagues pulled out all the stops on Peterborough's Children's Day – a joint initiative created by the NSPCC and local radio station Hereward FM. The aim of the day is to create awareness of the projects which both organisations carry out in the local area and to raise much-needed funding for both the NSPCC and Hereward Radio's own charity, Hereward Kids.

Employees from across BGL's Peterborough locations which include its Head Office in Orton Southgate, the IT Department in Lynchwood and Fusion Contact Centre Services in Bretton all dug deep into their pockets in the name of charity.

Activities throughout the day were organised by the Group's charity GIVE committees which have a presence at each site - in addition to being allocated £400 a month to spend on local worthy causes the committees help to arrange fundraising events and volunteer activities.

There was a wealth of activities available on the day which proved to be immensely popular - such as cake and sweet stalls, a raffle and guess the baby photos. For those who were competitively- minded, there was a biscuit and egg decorating contest, Giant Connect Four championship and a Playstation driving game. One of the divisions set up a car wash and valet service which was booked out all day and raised almost £350 alone. The day was brought to a close with a visit by Hereward FM’s Black Thunder, ensuring there was something for everyone!

The NSPCC was nominated by colleagues as the BGL Group's charity partner earlier this year in a companywide vote. It has pledged to support the charity for the next 18 months with a bid to raise £100,000 over that period.

Peter Winslow, Chief Executive of the BGL Group said: "I am really proud of all of our employees that have focused their energy into preparing for and participating in this event to support our nominated charity - they did extremely well. They have shown we are passionate about the NSPCC's cause and it is testament to their sheer determination and goodwill that we have managed to gather so many donations in such a fun-filled but worthy day."

Jon O'Neill, Charity Fundraising Manager for the NSPCC said: "The event has been a real success and we are overwhelmed with the level of support we have received for Peterborough Children's Day which was only launched this year. Thanks to the generosity of individuals and companies like BGL Group we will be sure to make this day a regular fixture.

"Ever since we started our relationship with BGL Group earlier this year, employees have approached each initiative with creativity, enthusiasm, and a sense of fun - which is why they are able to repeatedly achieve such fantastic results for the NSPCC and have already managed to raise over one tenth of their £100,000 target."

In Peterborough the NSPCC runs the Hear 2 Help project. This provides one-to-one sessions with children and young people who have suffered abuse and runs various services in schools including drop-in sessions and group programmes which cover issues such as bullying, good and bad secrets, self esteem and domestic abuse.
