Major IT employer sponsors Peterborough College award
Immediate release: 15 July 2010
The IT Department at BGL Group, one of the region's major employers, sponsored the Outstanding Achievement in IT Award at Peterborough Regional College's Excellence in Skills Awards last week. The award was won by James Cole.
James, from Dogsthorpe, Peterborough, won a glass trophy and £150 in vouchers, presented by Sue Platt, Senior Manager, IT Applications Management at BGL Group.
The awards celebrate students' achievements during the academic year 2009/10 and featured celebrity guest speaker Ade Adepitan. Ade is a Paralympian athlete, successful sports commentator and TV presenter, and a highly motivational speaker.
James Cole has just completed his first year of EDEXCEL (Level 3 NA) BTEC National Award for IT Practitioners (IT and Business). James was nominated for the award by his course tutor, who said: "James has been with us at the college for two years and it has been a pleasure to watch his confidence and ability grow. He is a quiet, unassuming individual whose steady perseverance and sheer hard work are qualities that I feel we as a college should celebrate."
BGL Group has a large and expanding IT department in Peterborough. Sue Platt said: "We were delighted to present James with his award and reward his hard work. Information and Communications Technologies are a vital part of any business operation today, and anyone starting out in this area has fantastic prospects for a successful career. We would welcome people like James to join our growing and dynamic team."
