Free fun in the sun for BGL Group employees and families
Immediate release: 31 July 2009
Almost 2,000 people enjoyed a free Family Fun Day at Wittering Grange near Peterborough on Sunday (July 26th), hosted by the Peterborough-based BGL Group - one of the UK's largest personal lines insurance intermediaries.
The revellers included family and friends of employees of the BGL Group's head office and IT headquarters in Peterborough and Fusion Contact Centres in Bretton and Coventry.
BGL Group operates motor and home insurance brands including comparethemarket.com, Budget, ibuyeco and Bennetts bike insurance as well as external partnerships with a number of other well-known and established brands such as Post Office®, Marks & Spencer, HSBC and Auto Trader.
All employees were invited to bring up to five guests to the action-packed event which catered for all ages, with a complimentary barbecue, drinks and as much popcorn, sweets and ice cream as they could manage!.
They enjoyed a whole host of entertainments including fairground rides, archery, bouncy castle, clairvoyants, bungee trampolines, a pamper tent, crazy golf and side stalls, not to mention fantastic live music through the decades from The Right Stuff band.
There were plenty of fun activities to keep the children entertained too, including inflatables, a giant slide and surf simulator, face painting, balloon and magic shows, a land train and treasure hunt and an arts and crafts tent.
There was a helicopter simulator challenge too with Darren Wright the person who performed the best landing, winning a flight in the real thing – a helicopter owned by BGL Group Chief Executive Peter Winslow. Darren was a guest of Matt Phillips, Associate Director of Internal Audit and Group Risk at the BGL Group.
The NSPCC – BGL Group's corporate charity partner – laid on a number of activities such as the clairvoyants, a penalty shoot out and vanity van where guests were asked to make a small donation to the charity – raising another £1,000 on the day. BGL Group has been supporting the NSPCC for more than a year and has already raised in excess of £70,000 through various fundraising activities.
Group Chief Executive Peter Winslow said: "We had a fantastic turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Our colleagues play a vital part in our business success and expansion - in the last year alone, BGL has recruited more than 400 new employees, which is more than one a day, and we will be looking for more people to join us as our business continues to grow.
"Every year we aim to give something back to our employees and their families and friends as a deserving thank you for all their hard work and support throughout the year. We're proud to have created an action-packed event with something for everyone."
