Committee GIVE an extra boost to the Great Fen Project
Immediate release: 01 October 2009
Members of the GIVE committee at BGL Group's head office in Peterborough gave up their own time to help with some clearing up at the Great Fen Project in Greater Peterborough this month.
After a tour of the site and an educational talk from a Natural England representative, the volunteers took down a dilapidated bird hide and made some serious headway clearing up scrub to make a new access track at this prime rural venture.
The volunteers included GIVE committee members Melanie Church, Julie Ainley, Catherine Dorwood, Nita Erda, Alexius Daily as well as Caroline Prout and Simon Goodson from The Wildlife Trust.
Afterwards, volunteer Julie Ainley, who is a PA with the BGL Group, said: "The experience was entirely new to me and exceeded my expectations, as it was also educational, with the added talk by the guy from Natural England. We were encouraged to complete the task unaided which created a real feeling of teamwork. It's also great to be doing something healthy in the outdoors, getting some exercise and stimulating the brain in different ways. It's something I'd love to do more of."
