BGL walks the Wight for hospice
Immediate release: 07 July 2010
Intrepid walkers from BGL Group recently put their best feet forward to raise £3,500 for the Isle of Wight Hospice.
A group of 11 people from BGL's claims management arm, ACM, team donned cagoules and hiking boots to join over 8,000 fellow ramblers for the gruelling 27-mile 'Walk the Wight' trek, which runs from Bembridge on the east coast of the island, across the hills and on to the stunning Needles Park.
Lee Johnston, Senior Manager Commercial Delivery for ACM and one of the walkers, said: "This is another superb example of fundraising by the ACM team.
"It was a very long day involving almost 12 hours of continuous walking with just a few rest stops along the way, but it was a fantastic experience.
"Raising £3,500 for such a worthy cause was a real achievement over a memorable weekend with a great bunch of people."
The 'Walk the Wight' trek follows on from the 26-mile Three Peaks Challenge in Yorkshire last May when some of the ACM team joined other BGL staff to raise £15,000 for the NSPCC.
"'Walk the Wight' was just as tough as the Yorkshire Three Peaks," Lee added, "so our thoughts are now turning to how we can top both of these next year!"
