BGL Employees pedal their way to five a day and raise over £250 for Marie Curie Cancer Care
As part of its 'my wellbeing' programme, the BGL Group encourages its employees to jump-on the saddle and bike themselves a healthy smoothie
Immediate release: 02 February 2012
The BGL Group recently teamed up with Love Smoothies Ltd to promote fitness and healthy eating across its Peterborough sites. More than 200 employees were able to 'bike and blend' a nutritious smoothie which helped raise more than £250 towards the BGL Charity Trek to China. The trek, which takes place in April 2012, is expected to raise over £100k for the Group's charity partner, Marie Curie Cancer Care.
For just £1.00 and 60 seconds of fast pedalling on a 'blender bike', cyclists could choose to make either the 'Big Thighs' (pineapple, mango, kiwi and strawberry) smoothie or 'Grape Escape' (grape, banana, blueberry and strawberry). BGL's 'My wellbeing' programme is designed to provide employees with a range of benefits that fall under the banners of 'my health', 'my fitness', 'my happiness' and 'my relaxation and energy.' Initiatives include free on-site health checks (cholesterol, glucose and BMI tests), subsidised on-site osteopathy/sports massage, and workshops on key wellbeing topics from sleep to happiness and vitality.
Michelle Neale, BGL employee and blender-biker, said: "The Health and Wellbeing team at BGL are constantly surprising employees with useful and fun initiatives to help raise awareness. As a member of the trek team, I'm so thankful that the money raised will go towards our fundraising total."
