BGL celebrates 'Soccer Sixes' success
Tournament raises £500 for national charity
Immediate release: 17 June 2010
Football fever kicked off recently at the BGL Group when staff from the company's Peterborough offices organised a Soccer Sixes tournament to raise money for their chosen corporate charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Seven teams booted up at Bushfield Sports Centre for the second annual tournament on Sunday 6 June raising a superb £500 for the charity.
A nailbiting final saw last year's tournament winners and favourites 'IT' take on 'Frontline', with experience ruling the day as IT lifted the 2010 Cup with a resounding 4-1 win. The team's David Garcia made it a double for IT by also taking the Player of the Tournament award.
Nicholas Titman of Fusion, BGL's contact centre operation in Peterborough and tournament organiser, said: "We'd like to thank everyone who gave up their time to help out on a brilliant day, including David Payne and Derek Vernum from the Northamptonshire FA, Viva City for letting us use the sports centre and Nicholas John Associates for running the tournament.
"This was a great warm-up for the World Cup with some excellent football being played for a terrific cause. A tournament highlight was an incredible simultaneous penalty on both pitches in the semi-final, both scored at exactly the same moment!"
