BGL Group adventurers to raise £15,000 for charity through Three Peaks Challenge
Immediate release: 19 May 2009
A team of 28 intrepid adventurers from Peterborough-based BGL Group will be taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge this summer in a bid to raise £15,000 for the company's corporate charity partner, the NSPCC.
BGL Group – one of the UK's largest privately-owned personal lines insurance intermediaries – is funding the specially-tailored event including mountain guides, transport and accommodation.
The major local employer has also secured complimentary personal insurance for the climbers through one of its generous insurer partners, Insure and Go Insurance Services.
The intrepid climbers are already busy preparing for their challenge to climb Britain's highest mountains back-to-back in 24 hours in July, and are working hard to drum up as much sponsorship as possible to boost the charity coffers for the NSPCC.
One thing's for sure, they'll certainly look the part with their NSPCC/BGL Group branded T-shirts as they embark on the mammoth challenge.
The challengers will set off from Peterborough on July 17 and head to beautiful North Wales where they will embark on their first mountain climb up the 1,085m summit of Snowdon. Then after a quick decent they'll head up to the Lake District to conquer Scafell Pike which, at 978m is the baby of the three mountains. And last but not least the climbers will head north into Scotland and up 1,344m to take in the view from Britain's highest point Ben Nevis.
Jon Oldham, who works in call centre planning for BGL Group, is one of the keen climbers and no stranger to fundraising having completed the London Marathon last year said: "We're really looking forward to the challenge. Everyone is geared up for it and determined to raise as much sponsorship as possible. It's a great opportunity to get involved in a company fundraising effort. We're really grateful for all the hard work and organisation that's gone into making this possible for us."
BGL Group Chief Executive Peter Winslow said: "At BGL Group we believe one of our biggest assets is our people and the commitment they put into their work and charity fundraising. Colleagues were asked to choose which charity they'd like to support as an organisation and the NSPCC has certainly proved a popular choice. Our employees have already raised £25,400 since we adopted the charity as our corporate partner in February 2008, and their efforts continue in earnest. This, together with match funding and other donations from BGL and our suppliers, brings the total raised for the NSPCC so far to £63,500. We wish the climbers well on the Three Peaks Challenge and we're happy to back them every step of the way."
Jon O'Neill, Corporate Fundraising Manager – East for the NSPCC said: "We have been overwhelmed with the fundraising spirit shown by the BGL Group so far. We are extremely grateful for all their efforts which help us to continue the vital work of the NSPCC in and around the Peterborough area."
The people participating in the event are based at either BGL Group's headquarters at Pegasus House, Orton Southgate, the IT headquarters at Park House, Lynch Wood, or Fusion Contact Centre Services in Bretton, all in Peterborough. They are: Julie Ainley, Lee Allen, Neil Bird, Peter Bloom, Mark Boyce, Paul Deen, Kym Dixon, Andy Dunn, Lee Forman, Lorraine Glasper-Rice, Mike Higginbotham, David Hull, Ian Johnson, Richard Lamb, James Morgan, Catherine Morris, Jon Oldham, Ben Payne, David Rayment, John Seaton, Susan Saunders, Steve Stainsby, Paul Thomas, Karen Walker, Tobias West, Susan Thomson, Saby Khangura, and Nicola Lawton.
