Recycling and Resource Efficiency
Recycling Hubs have been installed in central locations in all of BGL's UK sites to make recycling at work easier and more convenient for our staff. The hubs include special collection points for paper, mixed recyclable items and non-recyclable waste and are already proving very popular.
In addition BGL Group also recycles the following items:
- Toner and ink cartridges
- Cooking oil
- Electronic equipment
- Fluorescent tubes

BGL Group has undergone a major refurbishment of the heating and cooling system at its head office in Peterborough, which should make it more efficient and cut CO2 emissions by 20%. The controls have also been upgraded to enable better management of the system through zoning, eradicating sporadic heating and/or cooling and enabling faults to be identified more swiftly. The combination of more efficient controls and equipment will help to significantly reduce the carbon footprint and energy costs of the building.
BGL Group has replaced the lighting at its Fusion Contact Centre in Sunderland. Fluorescent lighting has been replaced throughout the buildings with more energy efficient lighting. As the Contact Centre operates seven days a week, the lights are switched on for over 4,420 hours a year, so this measure will deliver a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. We are also looking to replace the fluorescent lighting at our other sites to further reduce our carbon footprint.
BGL Group has recently constructed a new office building with energy saving at the forefront of the design.
BGL Group is signed up to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme which is aimed at large public and private sector organisations to improve their energy efficiency and cut emissions.
